Surely you've heard of Dalgona coffee: this drink has taken the internet by storm in recent months. Although the drink originated in South Korea, it quickly became a trend with us this year. Why it became such a success worldwide? Because you only need a few ingredients: instant coffee, sugar, water and milk. In addition, it also looks fantastic, it is a kind of creamy coffee with a creamy coffee layer.
I wanted to make this recipe a little healthier and gave it an original twist by adding matcha powder (how could that be otherwise as a matcha expert :-)). This Dalgona Matcha Latte is therefore a dalgona without coffee but with matcha powder .
Matcha powder is healthy
Why do I use matcha powder instead of coffee? Matcha has many health benefits : it gives you energy for up to 5 hours, it boosts your metabolism and is packed with good substances such as antioxidants, vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium.
Unlike coffee, you don't have an annoying slump afterwards. So only benefits!
The ingredients for a dalgona matcha latte
(for 1 cup)
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 1 egg white (if you want to make the recipe vegan, choose 3 tablespoons of aquafaba, which is the liquid in a can of chickpeas)
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- ¾ glass of warm milk, animal or vegetable (or cold with some ice cubes)
How are you?
The traditional Dalgona coffee is made with instant coffee. But I chose an alternative where we don't use coffee but matcha powder. Instant coffee becomes nice and creamy when you whip it with water and sugar, matcha does not have that effect. That's why I use 1 egg white (or the vegan alternative aquafaba) to whip up the matcha powder nicely. That's how you get that creamy whole.
- Warm up the milk and prepare your cup of milk.
- Beat the egg white or the aquafaba stiff with the mixer.
- Then add the sugar.
- Then add the matcha powder and mix until it is evenly green.
- Pour the mixture over the milk.
A sugar bomb but oh so tasty! Every now and then we get to enjoy something extra. ;-)
