You've probably been to an amusement park. Remember those brightly colored iced drinks they sell? That's a Slush Puppie, a drink that originally comes from the United States. The word 'Slush' refers to the mushy snow that forms when ice or snow begins to melt on the road surface. So where does the 'Puppie' in the name come from? Slush Puppie was the very first brand to sell slushies. Actually, the name of the drink is Slush, but we still refer to the Slush Puppie because this brand became very popular.

A Slush is wonderfully refreshing in the summer. That's why I started working in the kitchen myself and I made this delicious healthy recipe for you. You only need 3 ingredients, so it's super easy. Do you want to know how to make a healthy Slush yourself? Then read on quickly.

Slush puppy recipe

What do you need?

  • A cup of frozen strawberries. It is best to put them in the freezer the day before so that they are completely frozen.
  • Half a teaspoon of matcha .
  • 100 ml of water.

These are the quantities for 1 glass.

How are you?

  1. Bring 100 ml of water to a boil and let it cool down. Pour it gently over the matcha powder while you beat it nicely with the bamboo beater. Let the matcha tea get cold.
  2. Add the frozen strawberries to the blender along with a small splash of water. Mix until smooth. Note: you need a powerful mixer for this.
  3. Add the frozen mixture to a clear glass.
  4. Then pour the cold matcha tea over the ice mass. It is important that the tea is cold, otherwise the ice will melt faster. Also nice: after a while the matcha tea will slowly seep through the ice.

Why make a matcha slush?

The real Slush Puppie is tasty but very sweet and it is full of artificial colors. That bright blue or red color can of course not be healthy…

This matcha slush is a healthy alternative to the classic. So the kids can enjoy it without any worries. It's much healthier, thirst-quenching and doesn't give you a sticky mouth (which of course you do with the sugary slushies.) ;-)

Ideal for cooling off on a hot day. Plaice!
