You can also opt for a Reiki treatment at various places where you can book a massage. Those hoping for a firm massage will be in for a surprise. Reiki is not a massage. But what is Reiki then?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a way of healing. You can also call it healing or a method for spiritual growth. It is about the improvement of body and mind. For us, Reiki is one word. However, the Japanese word consists of two characters. Rei means soul and Ki means energy. Together they mean something like universal life energy. The energy that is everywhere, in us and around us.

The Japanese Reiki is originally called Usui Sensei's Reiki. The Western variant is called Usui Shiki Rhoho. In order to introduce Reiki to the West and make it attractive, certain ideas have been left out and other elements added. That does not make the Reiki less effective or worse.

Reiki principles

In addition to Reiki treatments, you can also use Reiki as a philosophy of life. Reiki has five precepts, five sentences that you can use as affirmations. They focus on the here and now. And not on the worries of yesterday or tomorrow. You can say the following phrases in the morning or use them as a mantra during meditation.

  • Today I am not angry
  • Today I'm not worried
  • Today I show gratitude
  • Today I work with dedication
  • Today I am kind

How does Reiki work?

A Reiki practitioner / master gently places the hands on different places on the body. The energy that is everywhere flows through the hands to your body. It is not a transfer from one person to another. The Reiki master is purely the transmitter. The energy then flows through your body and mind and heals where necessary. It also removes blockages, so that all energy can flow through your entire body again. You just have your clothes on during a treatment.

What can Reiki do for me?

When energy flows flow unhindered through the body, you have no or few complaints. After all, you are completely in balance. If you are not in balance, you can experience all kinds of complaints. Headaches, stomach aches, anger and depression are just a few examples.

From stress to relaxation

Reiki dissolves blockages that prevent relaxation. Stress alone can cause all kinds of complaints. On the other hand, relaxation can also solve many complaints. Think of sleeping problems, digestive problems and muscle pain.

From dark to light

Reiki is also about balancing your soul or spirit. An unbalanced mind experiences mood swings, anxiety, and even depression. Reiki gives clarity and positive energy. Reiki is the sun powerful enough to shine through a dense fog and to break open dark clouds.

From fatigue to energy

Reiki can make you sleep better, have more focus and energy. The energy that can flow freely through the body after a treatment will never run out. With a positive attitude and focus on today, you will be able to sleep effortlessly and wake up feeling rejuvenated.

From bad habit to healthy patterns

We all have an unhealthy habit. Or have had one. An eating habit, something in your behavior or how you react to a certain situation. A habit that occurs without us really wanting it. And often this leads to stress and regret.

Reiki helps you to recognize and address these habits. It brings body and mind in contact with each other, so that you can start to feel what you really need. This may be accompanied by sadness or other emotions that you didn't know would come up.

Reiki courses

Anyone can take a Reiki course. You don't need a gift. Only a passion for and interest in Reiki. The Western form has three degrees or initiations. You learn to tune into the energy so that you can conduct it. That's the 1st degree. In the 2nd degree you also learn other symbols and mantras. You can then use this in the treatment to go even deeper. At the 3rd degree you are a real teacher or master. You also learn how to teach Reiki to others.
