Have you ever baked soda bread? This is the perfect bread when you're short on time. No yeast is used with soda bread, so the bread does not have to rise but can go straight into the oven. So you don't need a bread machine for it.
With this recipe you can quickly and easily make your own soda bread. Just a quick warning: it's so good that the slices of bread quickly disappear from the shelf. ;-)
The ingredients for this soda bread
- 250 spelled flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons of matcha powder
- 50 grams dried apricots (coarsely chopped)
- 200 grams of yogurt
- A splash of whole milk
The preperation
- First preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
- Sift the spelled flour, baking soda and matcha powder into a bowl. Then stir in the apricots, which you had already coarsely chopped.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture and add the yogurt while stirring.
- You keep stirring until it becomes a sticky dough. If necessary, you can add a splash of milk.
- Sprinkle your table or work surface with flour and place the dough on it.
- Knead for about 1 minute until you have a nice, round ball.
- Take a baking tray and sprinkle it with flour.
- Place the ball of dough on the baking tray and sprinkle with flour. Also carve a deep cross in it (so you can determine where the bread tears open and the bread gets a nice pattern.)
- Bake the bread for about 45 minutes. When you tap the bottom of the bread and it sounds hollow, you know it's done.
This soda bread is not only quick and super easy to make, it is also delicious. Thanks to the dried apricots, the bread has a slightly sweet taste. Delicious with some homemade jam or butter.
Enjoy it!
